The Doctors-in-Training Awards Night was a fantastic event and it was a great way of recognising the excellent work done by junior doctors, as well as their managers and the senior staff who train them. Congratulations to all our winners and finalists!
Dozens of doctors-in-training nominated Linda Bell for the DIT Manager of the Year Award. However, it wasn’t just popularity that saw Ms Bell win.
It was the Network Manager and Education Support Officer for the Western Sydney Local Health District’s round the clock care for junior doctors, her high level of organisation and her unbiased, fair rostering system that set her apart from the other nominees.
Finalists
Sue Alexander – DIT Manager Royal Prince Alfred Hospital
Gillian Green – JMO Manager Wagga Wagga Rural Referral Hospital
Stephen Legge – JMO Manager John Hunter Hospital
Debbie Liversidge – JMO Manger Fairfield Hospital
Dr Tom Melhuish is the 2017 JMO of the Year, recognised not just for his clinical skill but also his efforts to improve the training experience for his colleagues.
In addition to being RMOA President at his hospital, he is heavily involved in medical education and the development of a health and wellbeing support program for DITs, one that has already been nominated for an award in his local health district.

Dr Khushboo Baheti is an advanced psychiatry trainee and the 2017 Registrar of the Year.
She is highly regarded by her colleagues as a hard worker and a doctor with great empathy and compassion for her patients.
Dr Baheti is not just a strong advocate for patients but also her fellow psychiatry trainees.

Amy Polmear – Registrar – St George Hospital

Dr Hari Nandakoban was named the 2017 Teacher of the Year but, unfortunately, could not attend the Doctors-in-Training Awards night and his accolade was collected on his behalf by Prof Nicholas Shackel.
Dr Nandakoban is the Network Director of Physician Education at Liverpool Hospital and is greatly respected by both his senior colleagues and the doctors-in-training he teaches.
In addition he has transformed basic physician training at his hospital and works hard to incentivise learning through a range of different awards and programs.
